Employment Law Basics for Employers

Employment Law Basics for Employers is a software program that presents the essential facts and nuts-and-bolts information any employer needs to know about the major laws and legal concepts regarding employees and the workplace. Written by longtime employment law attorney William T. Simmons, it is a survey of all of the most important Texas and federal laws covering the rights and responsibilities of employees and employers. It is designed with a familiar interface, that of a Windows 98 Help file. The information is organized into small, logical topics that cover all phases of the employment relationship: hiring, pay and policies, work separations, and post-termination claims and lawsuits. Users can freely navigate from one topic to another using two different tables of contents, built-in and custom navigational buttons, and links within the topics. There is also a detailed index. One of the most useful aspects of the software is the full-text search feature - a user can type a word or words into the search field and get a list of topics containing the search terms; clicking on a topic name will take the user directly to the topic. This software program is presented free of charge; although it is oriented toward business owners, managers, and other supervisory personnel, it is a useful orientation for anyone needing basic answers to the most common employment rights questions.

System requirements: PC-compatible computer running Windows 95, 98, or NT 4.0; approximately 1.3 to 2.5 MB free hard drive space (depending upon which files you already have on your system). Clicking the link below will allow you to download the installer file ("elbsetup.exe"). The installer file is a self-extracting archive-type executable file, 1.4 MB in size, that will take care of the installation details for you. It is suggested that you accept the default settings. The installer file will place the program files, two small text files, and some "DLL" files on your computer, and it will also place appropriate entries and icons on the "Programs" section of your "Start" menu. It is designed to install the DLLs only if your system does not currently have them. However, computers with older-generation OS versions may not have the very latest versions of the necessary DLLs (they are frequently revised by the OS vendor); if you have any questions about what will be installed or experience any problems running the software after installation, send an e-mail with your question or describing the problem in detail to the address below, and it will be forwarded to the author. Since this software is provided at no cost, no support is available beyond e-mail support with regard to installation issues. All legal questions should be addressed to a licensed attorney in your area.
